City-wide mixed use and city centres

City-wide mixed use and city centres

The issue

The Government's recent directive that large UK cities should investigate opportunities to establish Energy Service Companies (ESCo's) is also set to kick start a new breed of City-wide community energy schemes.

The aim of these public/private partnerships is to deliver sustainable low carbon energy solutions that meet the increasing future energy demands of our largest cities. And it's an area in which Vital Energi has unparalleled expertise.

The solution

Vital Energi's team has served City Schemes for more than 25 years. Some of our most experienced staff members gained their knowledge of community energy schemes through years of service employed on the development and management of City-wide heating schemes.

City-wide schemes installed by Vital Energi's staff represent approximately 70% of the UK's city heating networks. And those same people who were involved through the 80s and 90s in developing all of the UK's largest current city heating schemes in Nottingham, Sheffield, Leicester, Southampton, Manchester and various areas in London, still work for Vital Energi today.

We've worked on contracts won through successful tendering as well as on partnered projects undertaken on an open book basis. We've also gained a reputation for adding value to community energy schemes through design and product specification, as well as practical installation advice, and on many occasions, our services have been provided as nominated specialist.

We can also assist with proposal and design, project installation and asset management including operation and maintenance, as well as metering and billing.

In short, Vital Energi has a long and successful history of working with local authorities and a phenomenal track record of delivering best value community energy schemes.

Case study: Lerwick, Shetland Isles

From design to specification and implementation, this heating scheme serving Lerwick in the Shetland Isles utilised innovative waste-to-energy technology, serving a mixed array of buildings, both public and private. Ultrasonic heat meters measured usage and an automatic data collection collated readings from users.
