The direct heating method means that after passing through the heat meter, the primary district heating water from the energy centre is circulated directly through the heating circuit, with no plate heat exchanger, pressurisation vessel or circulation pump.

The direct HIU means that the primary water circulating within the district heating system or distribution pipework also circulates through the heating (radiator) circuit. This makes the direct HIU simpler as there are less components to maintain.
