Mayor awards Vital Energi's carbon cutting scheme (17/06/2009)

Vital Energi’s flagship tri-generation scheme at The Natural History Museum (NHM) has been honoured with a platinum award by The Mayor of London Boris Johnson at the recent Green500 awards, in recognition of its environmentally friendly qualities.

Funded by the London Development Agency, the Green500 programme has a target to cut London’s emissions by 1.5 million tonnes, saving at least £2.5million in energy bills. Organisations are able to contribute directly to the Mayor’s carbon targets and at the same time are rewarded for showing genuine carbon reductions with their schemes.

Woking closely with NHM, Vital Energi have delivered an energy efficient tri-generation scheme based on CHP technology providing electrical power, heating and cooling to the museum. Vital Energi have also financed the £3 million capital cost of the installation and will operate and maintain the scheme over the next 15 years.

Through improved energy efficiency, NHM will achieve savings in excess of £500,000 per annum and reduce their annual CO2 emissions by 1,800 tonnes bringing both environmental and economic benefits to the Museum as well as playing a key role in helping London meet its target to reduce emissions by 60% by 2025.
