The issue

The Government’s tough climate change targets, and push for increased energy efficiency, mean efforts are also being made to cut carbon emissions at other government sites, such as those run byThe Ministry of Defence (MoD).

This department is striving to cut its CO2 emissions by 20 per cent by the year 2010. Together, the civil service and MoD estates produce over one million tones of carbon annually, so achieving this target demands a reduction of at least 0.2 million tones a year.

The solution

Vital Energi has worked at a number of MoD sites, including RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath, to supply and install pre-insulated underground pipework, allowing additional buildings to be connected to an existing community heating scheme.
