New sustainable ESCo service contract for Blackpool Hospital (29/01/2009)

Vital Energi have recently been awarded a £1.5m contract by Blackpool and Fylde NHS Trust to deliver an energy efficient solution as part of a scheme to upgrade and improve the energy facilities of the Blackpool Victoria hospital.

The work will involve the removal of part of the aged steam plant and the design and installation of 1.1Mwe gas fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant to generate electricity and steam reducing the site’s electricity demand from the national grid, a combination waste heat boiler and a 350kW absorption chiller to utilise CHP waste heat to provide cooling to the hospital.

Vital Energi will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and management performance of the CHP for a minimum of 15 years.

Through improved efficiency of the energy systems infrastructure and in line with the Trust’s carbon reduction strategy, these measures will achieve primary energy reduction savings of around 15% equating to 1700 tonnes of carbon each year.
