Turning up the heat on bringing carbon emissions down in Glasgow (01/02/2012)

Two recent Vital Energi projects are playing a huge role in helping the city of Glasgow meet its ambitious 30% carbon reduction target - but what’s just as important is that they demonstrate that massive carbon savings can be made in both new and old buildings.

It’s all down to the efficiency of District Heating systems which, according to The Sustainable Glasgow report, will be crucial in ensuring the city meets its targets. Right now, Vital is designing a bespoke CHP based District Heating system for the new build 2014 Commonwealth Games’ Athletes’ Village and National Indoor Sports Arena in Glasgow, ultimately helping the development reduce its projected carbon output by up to 60%. Apply the concept to the decarbonisation of existing properties, Vital is also working with Cube Housing Association to deliver and retrofit Scotland’s largest CHP based District Heating scheme at the Wyndford estate. Built in the 1960’s and with over 1500 homes, Wyndford will soon be waving goodbye to poor quality electric heating, huge bills and an enormous carbon footprint, thanks to this groundbreaking £14.5m project.

So when it comes to turning the heat up, you can rest assured that Vital is working hard to ensure that carbon emissions and energy costs to consumers stay down - for Glasgow, the UK, and the rest of the world.
