Vital Energi have been appointed to deliver a low carbon community energy scheme to new homes at the heart of the new Aire Valley “eco-settlement” area of Yorkshire.

Situated at Yarn Street on the Hunslet Waterfront in the centre of Leeds, the 281 new Miller Homes properties are to receive part funding with a £1.7 million Low Carbon Infrastructure Fund (LCIF) capital grant provided through a partnership between the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and the Department of Communities and Local Government.

Fund managers acting for the partnership, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) selected the site from a long list of candidates based on its ability to deliver real energy improvements as well as its ability to set a template for change.

The new homes will be served by a state of the art central energy system that will not only deliver heating and hot water to all of it’s new residents but will bring added benefits by ensuring that they enjoy lower fuel costs whilst reducing the impact of new build development on the environment.

The new development will include a mixture of both 2 to 5 bed houses and 1 and 2 bed apartments and is set to be designed to achieve “Level 4” under the “Code for Sustainable Homes”.

Vital Energi will not only design the solution but also procure, install and operate the scheme for minimum of 10 years, providing a full service to residents including energy metering and billing as well as related Customer Service.

The scheme is set to be another example of Vital Energi making and keeping its promises to deliver reliable, efficient and responsible solutions that benefit Developers and Residents alike. 

The development will also play a key role in helping the UK Government achieve its target to reduce CO2 emission by 34% by 2020.
