Case Study: Tri-generation for The Natural History Museum

Vital Energi's £12 million flagship  tri-generation scheme involves the finance, supply, installation and commissioning of the necessary plant and equipment to provide co-generation of electrical power and heating services to the both the Natural History and the Victoria and Albert Museums. The installation was a major retro-fit project over an 18 month period to update the Natural History Museum’s Central Boiler House. This complex project involved many technical challenges in integrating the new plant without effecting the day to day running at the Natural History Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Vital Energi have financed the £3 million capital cost of the installation and will operate and maintain the scheme over the next 15 years, providing savings to the NHM and allowing Vital Energi a return on their investment. Through improved energy efficiency, NHM will achieve savings in excess of £0.5m per annum and reduce their annual CO2 emissions by 1,800 tonnes bringing both environmental and economic benefits to the Museum.
