International Women in Engineering Day 2019: Meet Emma Holden

Graduate Design Engineer, Emma Holden, is completing a 6 month internship at our head office in Blackburn as part of her university degree. Here’s her story…

“I’m currently working towards my degree in Environmental Sciences from Sheffield Hallam University and have been completing an internship at Vital as part of my year in industry. My role includes using relevant software such as AutoCAD and EnergyPRO to write reports (for example a dilapidation report), populating equipment schedules and conducting site surveys.

“I enjoy the variety of different projects that I have the opportunity to work on as nothing is ever the same which keeps it interesting and lets me learn new things every day. I’d encourage a career in engineering because it is a very relevant and important industry to be a part of, especially given the current situation regarding climate change. You get to design and build projects that have positive impacts for clients, customers and the environment.

“Do something you enjoy. Don’t feel pressured into taking up a career in something that you feel like you should be doing – just pick something you actually like and try your best to make it work.”
