Vital Energi is at the forefront of delivering efficient low carbon energy solutions across the public/ private residential, retail and commercial sectors throughout the UK. We operate in a rapidly expanding market for Heat and Power Solutions and, as one of the UK’s market leaders; we design, install, operate and maintain environmentally friendly energy generation and energy distribution systems.

We have recently secured a number of new long term operating contracts and as a result have a number of vacancies for mobile Operations and Maintenance Engineers (ideally with Steam and CHP backgrounds) with opportunities in the South West (Oxford/ Cheltenham), London, North West England, Leeds and York geographical areas. The individual will have responsibility for operating and maintaining plant and apparatus in accordance with company procedures and site rules; fulfilling customer services requirements; and meeting quality standards and health, safety and environmental objectives.

The Role:

  • Reporting to the Team Leader, the multi-skilled individual will:
  • Operate plant and apparatus in a safe and controlled manner
  • Respond to emergency call outs on a rota basis.
  • Undertake preventative, planned and reactive maintenance 
  • Assist the Team Leader and Contracts Manager in contract/ project development
  • Represent the company well at all times
  • Diligently and accurately maintain relevant documentation, records, paperwork and updating of the Maximo PPM system

The Person:

Ideally the candidate, who has served a recognised apprenticeship and/ or be qualified in Mechanical / Electrical engineering discipline, will: 

  • Be fully conversant with the process of steam raising in an industrial environment, with a sound understanding and experience of operating / maintaining industrial Steam and hot water boilers, Combined Heat and Power and associated ancillary plant. 
  • Have familiarity with Energy Centre processes and supporting distribution systems; and with Industrial and Commercial Heating systems. 
  • Have an understanding of control/ monitoring systems, working to BS and EN standards, with the ability to demonstrate a sound technical knowledge in HVAC systems.
  • Be able to demonstrate fault finding experience (within a similar environment), and have the ability to read design specifications/ technical drawings.
  • Have a consistently high level of attentiveness to health, safety and environmental issues, carrying out statutory inspections to a satisfactory standard. 
  • Be experiences in preparing Risk Assessments/ Method statements/ Permits and their application.
  • Gas safety or HV qualifications; gas registration would be advantageous.
  • Be computer literate; with sound I.T Literacy skills.
  • Be able to demonstrate excellent motivational and organisational skills with the ability to use initiative and prioritise workload., with the desire and drive to progress within the company
  • Have excellent internal and external communication skills (written & verbal) with strong customer focus.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence; the willingness to travel throughout the UK but mainly in the areas set out above and based upon the secured role is essential requirement for this position


Other additional skills 

Experience of:

  • Operation and maintenance of CHP generation, as well as electrical and steam distribution systems
  • Industrial Hot Water Boilers, Chiller and AC experience would be beneficial
  • plant monitoring systems (BMS etc.)
  • Have a sound understanding of fault diagnostics on low, medium voltage and control systems.

Salary:               Excellent salaries and benefits; dependent on experience
