We design, build, operate and maintain District Heating and District Cooling Networks, and have been doing so for over 30 years.
Our team have been providing the UK with District Heating networks for over 30 years. We have designed, built, operated and maintained some of the country’s first and largest schemes, and the smallest community energy projects.
In simple terms District Heating is the mechanism for distributing heat generated centrally.
Highly efficient pre-insulated underground pipes deliver heating and chilled water to-and-from from an energy centre, while Heat Interface Units provide the same control you'd expect from an ordinary boiler. A network of these pipes do the same for neighbouring homes and businesses creating a community energy scheme.
District Heating is not a new concept. Its foundations lie in Ancient Roman times (with Roman baths and underfloor heating), and during the Regency period in London, central coal fire furnaces would be built in residential squares and hot water distributed to houses around that square.
Today, however, only 2% of the UK uses District Heating schemes compared with 60% of Denmark and 95% of Iceland. There's still a long way to go to meet the London Mayor's aim to achieve 25% of London's communities served by District Energy by 2025.
We have designed and installed creative energy solutions for many of London's residents and businesses. These currently include delivering a CHP energy centre for Nine Elms in London, a clean, green and efficient decentralised solution for 650 apartments, a superstore and numerous commercial units, and the Somers Town Decentralised Heat Network which in addition to providing modern heat and hot water to four housing estates, will also reduce future CO2 emissions by 1000 tonnes annually.
