How did your journey into the industry begin:

After completing my Master in Mechanical Engineering, I started my career at a consultancy and spent a year there. However, I realised that the role wasn’t giving me the hands-on involvement in design and project processes that I wanted. I wanted a place where I could use the skills I learned at university in a more meaningful way, and Vital Energi offered just that.

Talk us through your current role:

I work in Pre-construction Design, where my day can include site visits, inspections, drawing up designs, data analysis, and applying for government funding for schemes. I’m proud to say that the two schemes I was responsible for just won funding, which is a great achievement!

How have you been supported and what are the opportunities for progression like?

Since joining Vital, I’ve made significant progress and improved my skills. The career development support has been excellent, with access to experienced colleagues who are always willing to share their knowledge and guidance. Looking ahead, I’m excited about the opportunities for career growth, and it’s an aspiration of mine to work towards becoming a board member in the next 20 years. Vital offers great support and progression, making it an ideal place to develop professionally.

I work with fantastic people and learn a lot from colleagues across the business. I love that my job allows me to solve real problems and make a positive impact through my work.

What opportunities have you had outside of your role?

I’ve participated in school visits, where I talk about job opportunities at Vital Energi. Since Vital is close to where I live, it’s a great chance to inspire the next generation to consider renewable engineering as a career and help them understand the difference it can make in the community. I’ve also had the opportunity to speak with design directors about ways to inspire future talent.
