Businesses across the UK are feeling the impacts of a volatile energy market, and being resilient to this is at the forefront of Hull’s Community Plan. As part of their aim to build a fairer and healthier Hull, Hull City Council needed an energy solution that was affordable, resilient and low carbon. Vital Energi are working alongside Hull City Council to bring this vision to life through heat networks. Together, they aim to reach businesses across Hull and enable them to connect to a heat supply that supports long term cost certainty and sustainability objectives.
27th of April 2026 was a day of connecting and learning all about this at the Hull Guildhall, with representatives from Hull City Council, Vital Energi and Ener-Vate presenting and answering questions from local businesses and property owners about these heat networks.
There are two heat networks coming to Hull; Hull Heat Network and Hull MAGIC. The two schemes are working alongside each other to deliver more reliable, low carbon heat and hot water across the city of Hull. Local organisations found out what the Hull Heat Network and Hull MAGIC schemes could mean for them and explored opportunities to connect. Our speakers took the audience through why heat networks were the solution of choice before diving into the benefits, such as:
Cost effective, low carbon heat
Multiple levels of resilience providing constant heat
Compliance with building regulations
The speakers were Martin Budd, Climate Change Manager at Hull City Council, Jo Longdon, Managing Director at Ener-Vate, and Glenn Harrison, Business Development Executive at Vital Energi. An encouraging number of local businesses came along to network, learn about the schemes and share their thoughts.
As well as the practical benefits, it was explained how the two schemes will support Hull’s local economy by utilising local supply chain, creating employment opportunities and championing social value causes.
This exciting initiative is supported by the success of Vital Energi’s heat network projects across the UK, including the exemplary Leeds PIPES project which saved over 7,000 tonnes of carbon in 2025 and is connected to 4,100+ homes and 30+ non-residential buildings.
