Vital Energi, who is currently delivering the £16.2m decarbonisation project at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, has helped support the creation of new last hours and days care (bereavement) facilities at the Trust's hospitals through a donation of nearly £5,000 to Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Charity.
The contribution supported the development of new Swan Rooms on Ward 37 at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) and Ward 14 at Princess Royal Hospital (PRH), with the RSH facilities now officially open following a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by representatives from Vital Energi, The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), and Ward Manager Rachel and her Team.
The ceremony formed part of celebrations marking the Swan Fund's 11th birthday.
Swan Rooms provide privacy and dignity for patients receiving last hours and days end-of-life care, as well as a comfortable, private environment for their families to stay and spend valuable time together.
The rooms were developed with support from the Swan Fund, which works to enhance last hours and days, end-of-life and bereavement care across SaTH. To recognise Vital Energi's contribution, commemorative plaques have been installed on the doors of the new Swan Rooms.
Lisa Martin, Social Value & Customer Care Manager at Vital Energi, said:
“We’re incredibly proud to see the Swan Rooms officially open and to know our donation has helped create these special spaces for patients and their families. When we first heard about the project, it touched our hearts and we knew we wanted to support Jules and the team, and the difference they are making.
“While our work at Shrewsbury focuses on delivering low-carbon energy infrastructure, it’s equally important that we leave a positive legacy in the communities we serve. We’re honoured to have played a small part in bringing these rooms to life.”
Julia Clarke, Director of Public Participation, said:
“Thank you to Vital Energi for their wonderful support of the Swan Rooms at SaTH. This generous donation to the Swan Fund which is part of The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Charity will bring comfort to patients and families when it matters most, and we are very grateful for their partnership.”
Vital Energi is currently delivering a major decarbonisation programme at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, which includes the installation of heat pumps, solar PV and energy efficiency measures that will reduce the site's carbon emissions by more than 3,000 tonnes each year.
The donation to the Swan Fund forms part of the company's wider commitment to creating positive social value alongside its infrastructure projects.
