We've won the heat pump section of the Viking Energy Network project

Vital land heat pump section of Viking Energy Network

We are pleased to announce that we have won the heat pump section of the Viking Energy Network project in Jarrow.

The £795k contract will see us manufacture, supply, install and commission the water source heat pump (in partnership with Star Renewables), which will take water from the nearby River Tyne and supply heating and hot water to 14 council-owned/public buildings including high-rise flats, schools, a hospital and sheltered-accommodation.

The tender for the main contract (which includes a 4km district heating network, 1MW solar farm with battery storage, private wire network and new build energy centre) is now in house and the work-winning and design teams are working hard to produce a tender which is due for submission on 20th July. This portion of the works is worth c.£10m and having won the water source heat pump tender, we should be well positioned for the rest of the network.

The project has secured £3.5m of ERDF funding and the initial calculations estimate carbon savings of almost 1,500 tonnes per year will be achieved.

Congratulations to the work-winning team on another job well done and we look forward to hearing about future sections of the project as they are awarded.
