Our impact

Our guiding principle drives every decision we make and underpins our commitment to sustainability. We consider our impact on the environment and society in every action – whether maximising the positive or minimising the negative, our business model and governance practices are constantly evolving to implement more sustainable and ethical actions, both internally and externally. Our core services encompass the design, installation and operation of low-carbon and renewable energy products and solutions ensuring that we do everything we can to address the critical challenges of climate change, decarbonisation and social value creation.

Our journey towards a sustainable future

Our aim is to continue operating at the forefront of the UK’s transition to low-carbon energy. Along our journey we continue to do this in a number of ways. We have continued our growth in asset ownership, expanding our energy-from-waste (EfW) assets by increasing our stake in our existing Drakelow EfW plant and acquiring the Port Clarence EfW plant.

We continue to significantly expand our portfolio of sustainable energy assets, from developing, operating and owning heat networks, innovative storage solutions, to large-scale renewable technology projects such as Lancaster University Net Zero Infrastructure Project, the Gatwick Airport Sustainability Framework and our acquisition of the Gloucestershire Science and Technology Park.

Ecovadis 2025 Silver Rating Smaller

Awarded Silver for our dedication, two years running

We are proud to have been awarded a Silver Medal Sustainability Rating by EcoVadis for the second year running, placing us within the top 15% of companies rated over the previous 12 months. This year, we increased our overall score due to additional measures we've put in place, and also the publication of our enhanced Annual Report which details many of our initiatives.

Supply chain engagement

We recognise that our supply chain plays a critical role in achieving our mission to deliver sustainable, intelligent, and reliable energy solutions. Guided by our Sustainable Procurement Policy and Supplier Code of Conduct, we work collaboratively with suppliers, striving towards the highest environmental, social and governance standards. We expect all suppliers to adhere to our policies and share our commitment to responsible business practices. This includes compliance with legal and ethical standards, promoting social value, and taking steps to minimise environmental impacts. We are starting to track the carbon performance of our suppliers and foster supplier commitments to measurable carbon reduction targets. This initiative aims to reduce our Scope 3 emissions by identifying high-impact areas within the supply chain and fostering supplier commitments to measurable carbon reduction targets.
